Free Summer Meals Program

The Olympia School District is distributing free grab-and-go meals this summer to students and youth, including lunch and breakfast for the following morning, at designated schools and community sites.

Virtual Town Halls set on reopening of school

Beginning next week, our district will hold virtual Town Halls to hear feedback from students, staff, families and the community on initial committee recommendations for how learning might look this fall. The ideas that will be presented are the result of extensive work by two planning teams — one focused on academics, and another on operations. Collectively, the two planning committees were made up of nearly 170 staff, family, student and community members.

Outdoor facilities reopen in Phase 3

Thurston County has been approved, as of June 24, 2020 to enter Phase 3 reopening of the state’s Safe Start order. Given this status, the district has begun to reopen its outdoor facilities, as well as some indoor facilities use.

School Board approves 2020-21 budget

The Olympia School Board has unanimously agreed to adopt a $250.4 million budget for the 2020-21 school year. The budget approved by the board on June 22 represents $159 for operating resources and $67 million for capital investments, including the $8.5 million technology levy approved by voters in 2018. Remaining resources are devoted to the Associated Student Body fund, Debt Services fund and Transportation Vehicle fund.

For now, to support families during this challenging time amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, we have compiled a menu of resources for students and families to access at home during the time schools are closed in Olympia. We have intentionally provided a variety of options, many of which do not require screen time once accessed. This list will expand in the coming weeks.

Fall 2020 School Reopening Plans

Planning is underway to address the question on many people’s minds: What will fall 2020 look like in our schools? ​ Olympia has formed two planning teams to begin mapping out needs for various scenarios this fall. One of the groups is addressing academic needs, and the other is looking at how we could safely operate school inside our physical buildings. As always, we will continue to follow guidance from the governor, health departments and education officials.

Registering Your Student at the OSD

New students who live within OSD attendance boundaries will need to complete the Olympia School District application for student registration forms and submit them to their neighborhood school. For more information, please call your school office or the district administration office at (360) 596-6113.
