Lincoln Log May 21, 2026
Highlights
NO SCHOOL TOMORROW OR MONDAY! We look forward to seeing your student on Tuesday, May 26th.
Have you filled out a volunteer clearance this year? This application needs to be submitted every year. If you plan on attending Camp Elderberry you will have to have an active volunteer clearance. Not sure? Contact the office and we can look it up for you.
Sign up to be a “Summer Savior” and help keep the Lincoln garden thriving while school is out. Volunteers commit to one week (Sunday–Saturday) and visit the garden at least twice to help with watering, weeding, harvesting, pruning, and other simple tasks. No gardening experience needed, guidance and support will be provided. Even if you can’t commit to a full week, drop-in help is always welcome! Sign up HERE
Theme Night- Thursday June 4th at 6:00 PM. Please plan on joining us to celebrate the year of learning. We will begin promptly at 6:00 with an assembly in the gym and then we invite you to classrooms to see students’ culminating projects. The evening will end at 7:30 PM.
Paul News

Greetings from the LIBRARY,
We will continue to circulate library materials and students can check out books for the remainder of May and into the first week of June. All library materials will be due Friday, June 5th!
Between now and the end of the year, your child will receive up to 2 paper notices that state which books are currently checked out, overdue or have a fine. Please return these library materials by June 5th. If there is damage or you cannot locate the item, we offer these options:
Replace the library book with a new copy (or nicely used). It is often cheaper to replace the book with a new copy or used copy in very good condition.
Pay the fine in the school office or online. If you pay the fine and later find the book, you will get a refund.
If there are special circumstances or the fine creates any sort of hardship, please contact me (jdubois@osd.wednet.edu) and the library will cover the fine with funds from our library budget.
We are especially looking to clear any fines from 5th grade students heading to middle school!

Summer Garden Volunteers Needed-Sign up here to be a Summer Savior
Summer Saviors are volunteers who keep the garden humming while school is out. This effort is essential to ensure we have a successful crop when the kids return to school and it’s also a great way to maintain a Lincoln connection during the break.
Ideally two families will sign up per week. Weeks are Sunday through Saturday. Our hope is that you can visit the garden at least twice during your week
Typical tasks include watering, weeding, harvesting, pruning plants, and chipping paths
You don't have to be a gardening expert to be a Summer Savior. I will reach out to you via email before your week starts to provide details, ideas for tasks, and to connect volunteers. You can also join the Summer Saviors kickoff work party on June 14th from 9 AM-1 PM to find out more about how to help in the garden.
Signup sheet is here: Summer Saviors Signup 2026.docx - Google Docs
If you can’t commit to a week, please still consider dropping by the garden if you have free time this summer. We’ll keep a list of tasks on the whiteboard and have a garden journal for folks to leave notes and updates. All hands are welcome and appreciated!
Thanks in advance, and I hope to see many of you over the summer!

PHOTOS OF MARCELA WANTED
As we prepare to celebrate Marcela’s retirement (our Marcelabration!), we’re creating a slideshow and photo book to honor their time at Options. We’d love your help by sharing photos from any school events, classrooms, or moments that include Marcela—especially older memories.
You can upload photos directly to our shared album here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/1t23s2S87vKh2xdcA. Just open the link and click “Add photos” to upload.
If possible, please add a brief note in the description for each photo (such as the year, event, names of people, or a short memory). These details will help us create a more meaningful tribute.
Please upload by Friday May 29th.
Thank you for helping us celebrate Marcela!

Camp Elderberry is on Friday June 12th~
Permission slips have gone home
You should see the bright green Camp Elderberry packet (with the permission slip on the last
page) coming home with your student! It takes our entire community helping to make Camp a
success from driving kids in the carpool, to volunteering on the day of, and planning ahead of
time. We close with the 5th grade graduation ceremony where we celebrate our children moving
up & on! Please use the QR code to access the Camp Elderberry linktree. There you will
find:
● Olympia School District Volunteer Clearance Form online form: OSD Volunteer Clearance
○ Because Camp Elderberry is considered an all school field trip all adults who
attend for the day are required to complete the volunteer clearance.
● Camp Elderberry Volunteer Form (online form: Camp Elderberry Volunteer Form )
○ If you can help at the event (day of jobs include set up, tear down, activity
leader/helper, parking direction, etc.) please complete this form ASAP, they’re
due May 8th
● Camp Elderberry Transportation form as we need to collect information from every
family to car pool to Camp together. Olympia School District Driver Clearance Form
(part of the OSD volunteer clearance form that requires you to provide your driver;s
license information and insurance information) is required to drive on this field trip.
○ Every adult who will drive students to Camp Elderberry must complete this part of
the OSD volunteer clearance form. It takes about 5 days to process. If you think
you might drive to the event please complete this part of the form as soon as
possible. We will need parents stepping up in each classroom to organize their
child’s classwide carpool so please let us know if that is you!
The planning team is still looking for new members to learn the essential roles it takes to make this annual tradition occur (the first year Lincoln School went out to Camp Thunderbird was in 1989!). We meet on Mondays at 5:00 pm at the Lincoln School Office and via Zoom:

Field Trips
If you haven’t done your volunteer clearance this school year, now is the time to do it. Every adult who wants to go on a class field trip; including Camp Elderberry, must be cleared through OSD as a volunteer every year. The volunteer database is reset every July, so please submit the volunteer clearance application if you haven’t submitted it this year.
Clearances take up to 2 weeks to process. Please fill it out well ahead of the field trip date.
Here is the link for the volunteer clearance application.
